Anthropomorphic Animals
Archive artistic images of Anthropomorphic Animals. Beginning in the Victorian era, anthropomorphic art – the art of animals in human form and situations – became very popular and remains so today. Here we see all manner of animals depicted in human dress and carrying out human tasks. Cats and then dogs were the most popular but many other animal species, including pigs, elephants, monkeys, lions, chickens, rabbits, squirrels, birds and insects have all found themselves caricatured in human form and some stage. The most famous of the artists in this genre was undoubtedly Louis Wain but there were many other well known names during the first half of the 20th century, including Arthur Thielé, Maurice Boulanger, GE Studdy, Harry Rountree and WR Ellam.
